Gaza government media office reveals displacement of 350,000 citizens, destruction of thousands of buildings

GAZA, Sept. 13 (YPA) – The government media office in Gaza Strip revealed on Saturday the immense scale of destruction caused by the ongoing Israeli aggression on the city since August 11, confirming that more than 350,000 citizens have been forcibly displaced.
In a press statement, the office clarified that Israeli airstrikes completely destroyed 1,600 residential buildings and over 13,000 tents for displaced people in the eastern neighborhoods, forcing residents to flee to the city center and western areas.

Systematic Targeting of Civilians

The statement described the Israeli army’s targeting of densely populated residential areas as a “brutal war” and a policy of “systematic destruction amounting to genocide and ethnic cleansing.”
The damage, it noted, was not limited to homes but also extended to hospitals, schools, mosques, and shelter tents.

Shocking Figures of Devastation

The statement pointed out that since the beginning of September alone, Israeli occupation forces have demolished 70 residential towers completely and another 120 partially, in addition to 3,500 tents for the displaced, compounding the tragedy for hundreds of thousands of residents who have lost their shelter.
These destroyed buildings housed approximately 50,000 people, while the targeted tents sheltered more than 52,000 displaced individuals.

Call for International Action

The office stressed that these actions are a “blatant violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions,” and it called on the international community for “urgent action to stop the catastrophe and protect civilians.”
In a related context, local sources reported that Israeli occupation forces dropped leaflets on Saturday demanding that residents of the western neighborhoods evacuate, even as civil defense teams continue to pull victims from under the rubble left by the intensive airstrikes. This new wave of displacement adds to a series of repeated forced migrations endured by Gaza’s population.
