Janitor in Hadramout defies odds, graduates with excellence in Finance

HADRAMOUT, Sept.07 (YPA) —Ibrahim Saleh Ka’tar, a janitor in Yemen’s Hadramout governorate, has successfully graduated with honors in Islamic Finance and Banking from the Distance Learning College at Seiyun University.

Ka’tar spent the past seven years working as a daily-wage sanitation worker with the Hadramout Valley and Desert Cleaning Fund. During the day, he cleaned the streets of his hometown. By night, he pursued his dream of higher education, studying late hours to prepare for a brighter future.

Ka’tar enrolled in the College of Sciences at Seiyun University in the 2022 academic year, and in 2025, he crowned his long academic journey with outstanding success — turning his passion into a tangible achievement that impressed the people of Hadramout and Yemen at large

Ka’tar’s story quickly spread on social media, where Yemenis hailed him as a symbol of struggle, resilience, and success.

Activists and citizens called his achievement “one of the most honorable stories of perseverance,” saying it brought pride to his family, his community, and the entire country.

They said that Ibrahim Ka’tar’s journey from janitor to university graduate serves as a beacon of hope for future generations. They described his story as a testament to the power of determination and proof that ambition is not limited by profession.

They urged the Hadramout authorities, affiliated with the Saudi-led coalition, to formally honor Ka’tar and offer him a job in his field of study, (Islamic banking), calling him an inspirational figure for youth across the governorate and the country.
