Euro-Med Monitor warns of imminent communications collapse in Gaza following Israeli bombing of residential towers
GAZA, Sept. 07 (YPA) – The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has warned of an imminent disruption to communications and internet networks in Gaza due to Israeli bombardment of residential towers.
“Targeting high-rise buildings in Gaza poses a direct threat to the communications and internet sector, as local companies install their vital technical equipment on the roofs of these buildings,” the Euro-Med Monitor said in a statement on Saturday.
“In the past few hours, the Israeli occupation army destroyed two residential towers and is threatening to destroy more in the coming days,” the statement read.
The Euro-Med Monitor stated that Israel’s destruction of residential towers in Gaza serves multiple objectives, including erasing urban structures, forcibly displacing civilians, and dismantling the remaining telecommunications and internet infrastructure.
It warned that the telecom and internet network are at risk of complete collapse due to the expected shutdown of operational stations as a result of fuel shortages.
The Euro-Med Monitor also stated that the destruction of telecommunications infrastructure is intended to disrupt humanitarian response efforts and impose total isolation on civilians, creating confusion and uncertainty that drives forced displacement
It called on all relevant parties to pressure “Israel” to halt the destruction of Gaza’s communications and internet infrastructure.
