Gaza Health Ministry: The pace of catastrophic repercussions of famine in Gaza is accelerating

GAZA, Sept. 02 (YPA) – The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip warned on Tuesday of the accelerating pace of catastrophic repercussions resulting from famine in the territory.

In an official statement, the ministry confirmed that 185 people died from malnutrition during the month of August, marking the highest death toll in recent months.

It further noted that 70 people, including 12 children, have died since the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) declared the Gaza Strip a famine area.

The statement added that 43,000 children under the age of five are suffering from malnutrition, alongside more than 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women. Additionally, 67% of pregnant women are suffering from anemia—the highest rate recorded in years.

The Ministry warned of the seriousness of current health indicators and the limited emergency response, citing ongoing shortages of food and medical supplies.
