SANAA, Sept. 02 (YPA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Sanaa government, has sent an official letter to the UN Secretary-General, the Security Council, and circulated it to all UN member states, the European Union, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, regarding Israel’s assassination of Yemen’s Prime Minister and members of the government.
The letter stressed that the Israeli aggression against Yemen “will not go unanswered,” citing Article 51 of the UN Charter and international law, which guarantee the right to self-defense. It noted that last Thursday’s aggression deliberately targeted Prime Minister Ahmed Al-Rahwi and several ministers, including the Foreign Minister, in what it described as a cowardly and treacherous act.
The Foreign Ministry denounced the attack as a blatant violation of Yemen’s sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity, as well as of the UN Charter, international law, and humanitarian law.
It emphasized that the killing of the Prime Minister and ministers was a full-fledged crime that adds to a series of Israeli attacks since July 20, 2024, which have struck airports, seaports, power stations, factories, and residential neighborhoods.
According to the letter, such crimes reflect Israel’s military failure and desperation, as it seeks a false sense of victory.
It further warned that international silence has emboldened Israeli enemy to escalate its attacks, posing a grave threat to regional and global security.
The Ministry renewed its call for the international community to uphold its moral and legal responsibilities, end Israel’s crimes, enforce accountability, and put an end to its impunity.
It added that Yemen’s position in support of Gaza is consistent with international law and comes in light of the international community’s failure to stop the genocide in Gaza.
It reaffirmed that Yemen’s stance will remain firm until the aggression ends and the siege on Gaza is lifted.
The letter concluded by saying that the Government of Change and Development will continue to carry out its duties in a caretaker capacity and provide services to the Yemeni people.
