Escalating violence in northeast Syria leaves 36 casualties in August

DAMASCUS, Sep. 01 (YPA) – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Monday that regions controlled by the “Autonomous Administration” in northern and eastern Syria witnessed a surge of murders and tribal clashes during the month of August.

The violence resulted in the deaths of 20 people, including two women and four children, and the injury of 16 others in separate incidents.

According to the SOHR, 18 deliberate murders were documented across Deir ez-Zor, Hasakah, Raqqa, and Aleppo. There were also six tribal clashes that resulted in civilian casualties.

The motives for the crimes varied, ranging from family and revenge disputes and drug-related violence to armed conflicts between cousins. The incidents included horrific events, such as the killing of children in brawls, stabbings, and direct shootings, as well as cases of domestic violence. Civilians in the region are living in a state of fear and anxiety due to the continuous security breakdown.

The SOHR cited local sources who stated that the recurrence of these incidents exacerbates social tension and threatens the stability of local communities, in the absence of fundamental solutions to stop the conflicts and control the spread of weapons.
