Jerusalem Governorate: Israeli occupation erasing Islamic heritage at Al-Aqsa

QUDS, Sept. 01 (YPA) – The Jerusalem Governorate reported, Sunday, that leaked videos have revealed illegal demolition and excavation operations carried out by the Israeli occupation authorities beneath the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, deliberately targeting Islamic artifacts dating back to the Umayyad period, amid the absence of international oversight.

In a press statement, the governorate said that the occupation authorities are working to destroy these Islamic archaeological landmarks in order to erase the historical identity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and falsify facts to support the narrative of the “alleged Temple.”

It affirmed that these crimes represent a direct assault on human heritage and Islamic civilization, as well as a blatant violation of international laws and archaeological protection agreements.

The statement clarified that these excavations are conducted secretly or semi-secretly, away from any international supervision, which amplifies the risks to the foundations and historical landmarks of Al-Aqsa Mosque, threatening to undermine its architectural stability alongside destroying invaluable historical evidence.

The governorate pointed out that the Israeli occupation seeks through these practices to impose new realities on the ground that serve its settlement projects and plans to Judaize the city.

It warned that continuing the demolition and removal of these Umayyad Islamic artifacts is a systematic crime targeting Palestinian and Islamic memory and identity.

The Jerusalem Governorate called on the international community, UNESCO, and the United Nations to intervene immediately to stop these violations and hold the occupation accountable for its crimes.
