Syrian Observatory reports abduction of 293 Druze women in Sweida

DAMASCUS, Aug. 31 (YPA) – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) announced Sunday the documentation of 293 abductions of Druze women in the southern Syrian province of Sweida since attacks on the province began on July 13.

According to the SOHR, the total includes 42 women who were released after being forcibly detained without due process or clear charges. Two women remain in custody, while 14 have been killed.

The fate of 235 of the abducted women remains unknown, the SOHR added.

The Observatory called for the immediate release of all abductees and for those responsible for these crimes to be held accountable, demanding an urgent intervention by an independent international commission of inquiry.

The SOHR also stressed the need to keep women out of armed conflicts, stating that the continuation of these abductions constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
