SANAA, Aug. 22 (YPA) – The National Center for Meteorology and Early Warning in Yemen issued a high-level weather alert on Friday, warning citizens of continued heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours.
The Civil Defense Authority has also called on relevant authorities in Sana’a and the governorates to be on high alert and prepared for any emergency.
According to the latest weather bulletin, varying intensities of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and occasional hail are expected in parts of the governorates of Bayda, Abyan, Dhalea, Lahj, Taiz, Ibb, Raymah, Hodeida, Dhamar, Mahwit, Sanaa, Hajjah, Amran, and Saada.
Rainfall is also expected to hit the plateaus and deserts of Jawf, Marib, Shabwa, Hadramout, and Mahra, as well as the southern and eastern coastal regions and nearby interior areas.
The center called on citizens to not be in the valleys and torrent passages in areas where rain is expected, and to take shelter from thunderstorms.
It also warned motorists on mountain roads of low horizontal visibility during rain, and of crossing bridges and underground tunnels during the flow of torrents.
