GAZA, Aug. 22 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation military has informed Gaza’s health authorities of plans to evacuate hospitals in Gaza City as part of preparations for a ground invasion, Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, said on Thursday.
In a press statement on Thursday, Abu Salmiya warned that 1.3 million people are at risk if Israeli occupation forces launch a ground invasion into Gaza City, adding that the medical system cannot serve them under such conditions.
“We fear for the lives of our medical staff and patients. Hundreds have already been killed inside hospitals.”
He stressed that there is no room left to receive the wounded and that the morgues are full.
Abu Salmiya called for an immediate end to this war.
In the same context, the Ministry of Health in Gaza strongly rejected the Israeli request to transfer medical resources from Gaza City to the southern part of the enclave.
The ministry stressed that this step will undermine what remains of the health system.
The ministry warned that this step will deprive more than one million people of their right to medical treatment, placing the lives of patients, wounded civilians, and healthcare workers in imminent danger.
It urged international and UN agencies to act immediately to protect the remaining healthcare infrastructure and ensure the supply of life-saving resources.
The warnings come amid Israeli military announcements of a new ground operation in Gaza City, accompanied by threats to forcibly relocate civilians from the area.
