Residents accuse UAE-backed Forces of conducting drone surveillance in Abyan

ABYAN, Aug. 13 (YPA) – Local sources have accused UAE-backed factions operating in Yemen’s southern Abyan governorate of violating citizens’ privacy by conducting continuous drone surveillance over the skies of Mudiyah district.

The sources reported that surveillance drones, believed to be operated by Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces, have intensified their flights over villages and residential areas in Mudiyah in recent days.

The flights reportedly occur both day and night, raising concerns among locals over the breach of their personal and family privacy.

The unprecedented surveillance has caused widespread discomfort, particularly for families who are forced to sleep on the rooftops of their homes due to frequent power outages and soaring temperatures, residents said.  Many fear their private lives are being filmed or monitored.

According to the sources, the drone control operations are being conducted from a hotel in the Al-Humeimah area, east of Mudiyah, under the stated purpose of monitoring suspected terrorist activity.

However, locals deemed the use of drones for nighttime surveillance over civilian homes a serious violation of their privacy .
