GAZA, Aug. 05 (YPA) – At least 188 Palestinians, including 94 children, have starved to death in the Gaza Strip since the Israeli occupation launched its aggression on Gaza in October 2023.
According to the Gaza-based Ministry of Health on Tuesday, this tally reflected the escalating silent crime targeting the most vulnerable segments of society.
The ministry’s daily statement said that Gaza hospitals recorded eight new deaths due to famine and malnutrition over the past 24 hours, amid mounting warnings of a collapse in health and living conditions.
This deterioration comes amid warnings issued also by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), which described child mortality rates in Gaza as “unprecedented,” in light of hunger, lack of care, and severe health deterioration.
According to the World Food Programme, a quarter of the Strip’s population lives in famine-like conditions, and at least 100,000 children and women are suffering from severe malnutrition, while the occupation has been continuing to tighten the blockade and prevent the entry of aid.
The genocidal war have been so far resulted in more than 210,000 deaths and injuries, the majority of whom are women and children. Over 9,000 people remain missing under the rubble of the destroying buildings, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced. Meanwhile, famine conditions are worsening and slowly becoming a deadly weapon, claiming lives.
