In Video: Mukalla uprising topples images of UAE rulers, tears down STC slogans

HADRAMOUT, July 31 (YPA) – The city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout province, which is under the control of UAE-backed factions, witnessed growing popular anger on Wednesday evening, extending to several districts of the province for the fourth consecutive day.

Protesters expressed their anger by tearing down slogans and pictures of Aidarous al-Zubaidi, president of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), in the streets of Mukalla and Ashihr cities. This was in response to the statements and threats issued by the STC against the people of Hadramout.

Videos circulated documenting the city’s youth removing pictures of al-Zubaidi and the UAE rulers from the main streets, embodying the growing popular rejection of the UAE and STC policies in the region, especially after the repression the protesters have been subjected to in recent days.

In contrast, the STC organized counter-demonstrations in the cities of Tarim and Sayoun in the Hadramout Valley against the Saudi-backed “Hadramout Tribal Alliance,” accusing the alliance of blocking the passage of fuel tankers destined for the valley’s power plants in response to the protests in Mukalla.

The Hadramout Tribal Alliance, led by Amr bin Habrish al-Ali, is accused of seeking to control Mukalla and the coastal districts, especially after the alliance declared “self-rule” last April in cooperation with Saudi Arabia.

This declaration followed a year of sit-ins in the Hadramout’s Ghayl bin Yamin area, aimed at ensuring a genuine partnership for the people of Hadramout and securing their rights to benefit from the revenues of oil and natural resources to support development and service projects.
