Demonstration held in front of Egyptian embassy in Tripoli, demanding opening of Rafah crossing

SANAA, July 27 (YPA) – Dozens of Libyan demonstrators organized a demonstration in front of the Egyptian embassy in the capital, Tripoli, on Saturday night, demanding the opening of the Rafah border crossing and the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

While gathering in front of the embassy, the demonstrators chanted slogans denouncing the continued blockade on the Gaza Strip and the deteriorating living conditions there.

They also expressed their support for the Palestinian resistance and praised the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in the face of Israeli aggression.

The demonstrators chanted slogans denouncing the Arab and international silence regarding the ongoing blockade and bombardment of the Gaza Strip, affirming Libya’s supportive stance for the Palestinian cause.

The demonstrators also expressed their desire to organize an open sit-in in front of the embassy to pressure the Egyptian side to take urgent steps to open the crossing and allow the passage of humanitarian aid into besieged Gaza.

While the diplomatic police guards, affiliated with the Government of National Unity, prevented the protesters from setting up a tent in front of the embassy building and announcing the sit-in, some demonstrators attempted to climb the embassy’s front walls, but police arrested them.

The House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee issued a brief statement condemning what it described as an “attempt to storm” the Egyptian embassy building and terrorize the embassy’s diplomatic staff, considering these actions to be a blatant violation of diplomatic norms and a threat to relations between the two countries.
