LONDON, July 26 (YPA) – Italian parliamentarian Angelo Bonelli directly accused his country’s government and a number of Western governments of complicity in what he described as war crimes and genocide perpetrated by “Israel” against the Palestinian people.
Bonelli’s statement came during his speech at the World Conference in Solidarity with Palestine, held in London on Saturday, where he called for confronting the ongoing events in Gaza and the West Bank as a moral and humanitarian test that should not be ignored.
In his sharp criticism, Bonelli denounced what he described as the West’s blatant double standards, pointing to the speed with which it imposed sanctions on Russia for violating international law while turning a blind eye or even attacking those who express solidarity with Palestinian victims when it comes to the massacre of civilians there.
The Italian parliamentarian also revealed the Italian government’s repeated rejection of opposition proposals within parliament to cancel military agreements with “Israel” and officially recognize the State of Palestine. He attacked the statements of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who defended these agreements as a means of dialogue, questioning the rationale of arms exports as a mechanism for understanding.
In a serious revelation, Bonelli pointed to the results of an independent investigation conducted in Italy that showed that the Italian government exported six tons of ammonium nitrate to “Israel”—a substance primarily used in the manufacture of explosives—between November 2023 and March 2025.
Bonelli recounted a touching moment during his visit to a Palestinian hospital in Cairo, where he met a child from Gaza who had lost his leg due to Israeli shelling. He said the scene left him feeling helpless in the face of the humanitarian catastrophe.
The Italian parliamentarian also spoke about his visit to the West Bank, pointing to the violent settlements and home demolitions aimed at displacing Palestinians and imposing a settlement based on their expulsion from their lands.
He warned of a crisis threatening the credibility of international institutions, highlighting the condemnation of a UN rapporteur for speaking the truth about genocide. He emphasized that the world is being reshaped on the basis of military force, which will lead to war and poverty.
Bonelli concluded by calling for support for a free Palestine and building a global alliance for humanity.
