Public anger mounts in Mukalla amid worsening living conditions

HADRAMOUT, July 24 (YPA) -Public anger continues to grow in the city of Mukalla, the capital of oil-rich Hadramout province in eastern Yemen, for the eighth consecutive day, as residents protest the ongoing collapse of public services and living conditions under the control of the Saudi-led coalition.

Dozens of protesters blocked several main roads and residential streets in the Khalaf district of Mukalla, voicing outrage over daily power outages that last more than 19 hours.

Demonstrators accused the coalition-backed government of ignoring their plight.

Residents of coastal Hadramout have been staging daily protests since last week, calling on the pro- coalition government to improve public services and provide fuel for power stations

Protesters also urged authorities to address the continued collapse of the local currency, which has sharply devalued against foreign currencies, fueling a surge in the prices of basic goods and worsening the already dire living conditions.

Meanwhile, several Hadramout activists accused local authorities of looting the province’s natural resources and revenues, alleging they are being diverted for personal gain and invested outside Yemen,

They described the province’s leadership as a “corrupt system” that has failed to deliver basic services like electricity and water, losing the trust of the very people it governs.
