ABYAN, July 22 (YPA) – Members of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) stormed on Monday the headquarters of the Social Insurance and Social Security Corporation in Zinjibar, Abyan province, south of Yemen.
Local source affirmed that the STC also imposed a new director at gunpoint, leading to armed clashes in the city center.
The sources added that clashes erupted on Monday between gunmen loyal to the former director of the institution, Abdrabuh Am’bad, and members of the Security Belt, who moved to empower the new director the new duties by force of arms, without any legal recourse.
They revealed that members of the Security Belt in Zinjibar city expelled “Ama’bad,” who refused to hand over control of the institution.
Armed clashes erupted around the institution, with no mention of any human or material losses.
The sources attributed the clashes to a struggle for control of state institutions between leaders loyal to the coalition.
