Academics in Marib demand increase in their salaries, denounce official authorities silence

MARIB, July 21 (YPA) – The Trade Union Committee of Faculty Members and Their Assistants at the University of Saba Region in Marib, which is under coalition control, issued Statement No. (1), denouncing what it called the official silence regarding what it described as an economic disaster.

The union called on the so-called “Presidential Council” and the government affiliated with the coalition to raise the minimum salary for academics to $1,000.

The union said it is following the economic situation in Marib and the unprecedented deterioration of the local currency, as the Yemeni riyal has lost more than 90% of its value, affecting the living conditions of faculty members and their assistants in Yemeni universities affiliated with the “Al-Alimi government.”

The committee denounced the official silence regarding this economic disaster without tangible solutions from the official authorities.
