Local authority affiliated with Supreme Political Council in Taiz launches initiative to supply city with water

TAIZ, July 19 (YPA) – The local authority affiliated with the Supreme Political Council in Taiz province, based in Al-Hawban, has launched an initiative to send water tankers from Al-Hawban into the city of Taiz, which is under the Saudi-led coalition’s control, via the Qasr roundabout crossing.

Observers considered this initiative a positive step toward alleviating the humanitarian crisis facing residents inside Taiz.

According to local residents, this initiative comes amid a worsening water crisis and the neglect of the authorities affiliated with the so-called Islah Party and the inaction of their supporters, who have contributed to the water crisis by allowing water to enter after paying exorbitant fees.

For weeks, the city of Taiz has been experiencing a severe water crisis. Getting a few liters of drinkable water has become an unattainable dream, requiring great difficulty and lengthy journeys.

According to residents, they struggle to obtain water after days of follow-up with tanker owners. They are ultimately able to fill 2,000 liters for household use for a sum between 60,000 and 80,000 Yemeni riyals, a large sum for a family whose income does not exceed 60,000 riyals (the dollar in their area equals 2,800 Yemeni riyals).
