Israeli officer killed in southern Gaza

GAZA, July 11 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation military confirmed on Friday morning the death of an officer with the rank of captain from the elite Golani reconnaissance unit during a combat operation in southern Gaza. An investigation has been opened into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to military correspondent Roy Blumenthal from Israel’s Kan public broadcaster, the incident occurred during a field operation on Thursday in the city of Khan Younis, where the reconnaissance forces were targeting what the military described as “terrorist infrastructure” as part of ongoing operations led by the occupation’s 36th Division.

Blumenthal reported that during the mission, troops planted explosives in several buildings identified as suspicious and allegedly used for militant activities. However, an unexpected explosion occurred while one of the buildings was being rigged, critically injuring the officer. He later died from his wounds.
