Teachers in oil-rich Shabwa city protest deteriorating living conditions

SHABWA, July 09 (YPA) – Dozens of teachers in the oil-rich Shabwa province, controlled by UAE-backed factions, staged a protest on Wednesday to denounce the deteriorating living conditions amid the Saudi-led coalition-backed government’s disregard for the crisis.

In a statement issued after the protest in the city of Ataq, the teachers called for the regular payment of their salaries and an increase in the minimum wage to ensure a decent living for teachers and their families.

The statement also stressed the need to dismiss all those who contributed to the issuance of arbitrary or punitive decisions against teachers, which led to their deprivation of their legal rights.

The statement held the province’s Education Office responsible for any arbitrary measures taken against teachers without legal basis. It explained that the protest was held peacefully and responsibly, with the aim of defending the legitimate rights of education workers and protecting their dignity and noble mission.
