DAMASCUS, July 04 (YPA) – Massive fire broke out on Friday the vicinity of the People’s Palace, located northwest of the Syrian capital, Damascus, after angry protests.
Local media sources explained that the fire broke out in an outdoor restaurant within one of the gardens of the presidential complex, leading to plumes of smoke rising in the area, amid a state of security alert and intensive firefighting operations.
There have been no official reports yet of any injuries or the extent of the damage caused by the fire. However, local sources indicated that firefighters managed to control the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby residential areas.
Some reports suggested that the fire was caused by a technical malfunction or an electrical short circuit.
The area where the fire broke out is one of the most fortified areas in the capital, containing several sensitive government and security headquarters.
