SANAA, June 25 (YPA) – UN Special Rapporteur, Balakrishnan Rajagopal, stated that the American and Israeli attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran constitute an act of aggression and a violation of international law.
The UN Special Rapporteur explained, on Wednesday, that according to international law, attacking nuclear facilities is strictly prohibited, indicating that Tel Aviv and Washington have ignored this matter.
Rajagopal stated that there is widespread controversy over the Iranian nuclear program, adding: “However, whatever the reasons, the use of force against Iran and its nuclear program is considered illegal according to the UN Charter and the basic principles of international law.”
He added in condemnation: “There is something strange, where a state like Iran, which adheres to international law or attempts to adhere to it and is a party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, is punished by a state that does not adhere to international law and is not a party to the aforementioned treaty (Israel).”
He also pointed out that Iran signed the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and built its nuclear reactors for peaceful purposes, explaining that this step is considered acceptable by most countries, including the United States.
