ADEN, June 18 (YPA) – The western coasts of Aden, under the Saudi-led coalition’s control, are facing a severe environmental crisis due to widespread oil pollution, with no confirmed information about who is responsible.
Eyewitnesses reported that dense black slicks covered vast areas of seawater in the past few hours, specifically on Tuesday, accompanied by a suffocating oil odor that affected northern Al-Buraiqah, Al-Haswa, and the coast of Al-Shaab.
The witnesses indicated that the pollution is severely damaging the ecosystem, with large numbers of small marine creatures dying, sparking discontent and concern among residents of the affected areas.
They also explained that sticky oil has reached the beaches, posing a direct threat to the health of local residents and negatively impacting the tourism sector.
In this context, activists in Aden believe that this environmental disaster poses a grave risk to the coastal environment in the region, criticizing the silence of coalition-affiliated authorities who have not taken urgent steps to mitigate the damage.
Activists called for the immediate formation of an investigation committee to determine the source of the pollution and punish those responsible for this environmental disaster.
