Civil Defense Authority extinguishes huge fire in Sanaa

SANAA, June 12 (YPA) – Civil Defense teams were able to extinguish a fire that broke out in a commercial area on Taiz Street -the 22nd of May intersection- in the Al-Sab’een district of the capital, Sana’a.

The Civil Defense Authority explained that the fire broke out in a central refrigerator belonging to citizen Mohammed Al-Badani, and the flames spread to two adjacent car showrooms and a nearby hotel.

It reported that the fire resulted in the complete destruction of the central refrigerator and the partial burning of five cars, including three cars belonging to one of the showrooms and two cars belonging to citizens.

The hotel and some of the shops located below it were also partially damaged, but no human losses were recorded.

The Authority confirmed that firefighting teams were able to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes, facilities, and shops.

It indicated that investigations are still ongoing to determine the causes of the fire, explaining that the lack of safety measures in these facilities contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.

The Civil Defense Department pointed out that the Public Works and Industry and Trade offices grant building and business licenses to commercial and service establishments without consulting the Civil Defense Department to verify that they meet public safety and security standards and requirements constitutes a clear violation of the laws and exposes lives and property to danger.

The Department indicated that it had repeatedly contacted these authorities in this regard, but had not received any response.
