The US State Department has approved the potential sale of equipment and services related to sustainment support for M1A2 Abrams main battle tank systems to Kuwait for an estimated $325 million, the Pentagon said on Wednesday.
The principal contractor for the sales is General Dynamics, the Pentagon said in a statement.
This deal is an extension of a previous agreement signed in September 2022, which involved supplying Kuwait with ammunition and spare parts for the same model of tanks, valued at $250 million.
The US Department of Defense confirmed that this new deal is part of efforts to strengthen defense partnership with Kuwait, a key non-NATO ally, noting that it will contribute to regional stability in the Middle East and enable Kuwait to address regional security challenges and protect its critical infrastructure.
