Sabotage attack puts Marib’s gas power plant out of service

MARIB, June 01 (YPA) – A gunman from the Al-Hur tribe in Wadi Abida district of Marib province, controlled by the Islah Party factions loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, carried out on Sunday a sabotage attack that caused a power outage and plunged Marib city into darkness.

Local sources reported that the tribesman, Mabkhout Al-Hur, placed a metal rope on the power lines in the Al-Arqayn area, causing the gas-powered station to shut down and go out of service, as well as a power outage in all areas.

According to the sources, the incident was motivated by the electricity authority’s disregard for the demands of the Al-Hur and the area’s residents for more than three days, despite his having purchased an electrical transformer with his own money. Al-Hur has since surrendered to Islah authorities in Marib.

This comes amid ongoing security chaos and a lack of state control in areas under the control of the coalition and Islah factions in Marib and Wadi Abida district, with the increasing presence of armed elements.
