Popular revolt breaks out in Aden against collapse of essential services

ADEN, May 31 (YPA) – A popular revolt broke out on Saturday inside the coalition-controlled city of Aden, terrifying the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the province.

Sources familiar with the matter said that STC factions had blocked all streets and side roads leading to Madram Street in the Mualla district since early morning to thwart angry protests hundreds of woman staged to denounce the collapse of living conditions and services in the city.

The sources reported that female recruits of the STC deployed in the streets, wielding batons and sticks, in a clear threat to attack the demonstrators demanding a decent standard of living, including electricity, water, and salaries.

The STC elements were hysterically mobilized using dozens of Emirati armored vehicles and military vehicles, preventing entry and exit to Maalla city.

The women’s demonstration in Aden was the third in May, following the assault on them during the past weeks in the parade square in Aden’s Khormaksar city, without any response by the coalition-backed Aden government to provide fuel for the power plants.

The women’s protest in Aden came after the UAE-backed STC factions had carried out a widespread kidnapping campaign targeting dozens of activists and youth during their protests in various parts of Aden since last April.
