ADEN, May 31 (YPA) -The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s factions have mobilized all their forces across various areas in Yemen’s southern port city of Aden—which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition— ahead of what is expected to be the largest women-led protest against the ongoing collapse of living standards and public services.
Dozens of military vehicles were deployed throughout the city’s main and side streets since Thursday night, following calls for an angry women’s protest scheduled for Saturday on Al-Madram Street in Al-Mualla, demanding the coalition and its government to provide basic services.
The protest also a reaction to last week’s crackdown on a women’s protest at Al-Aroudh Square.
Activists hailed the women-led protest as an ‘unprecedented revolution’ for the city’s women in decades—demanding dignified living conditions, basic necessities like electricity and water, and price relief.”
They described the planned women’s demonstration as an unprecedented revolution by Adeni women in decades, demanding dignified living conditions, basic services like electricity and water, and price reductions.
They stressed that ‘silence is no longer an option’ amid the coalition and its allied government’s continued disregard for citizens’ legitimate demands—failing to alleviate suffering or halt the Yemeni riyal’s catastrophic devaluation in these areas.
The Aden women’s protest marks an escalation of broader popular demonstrations demanding the coalition’s withdrawal after nearly a decade of security chaos, economic collapse, and failed public services.
