Sanaa criticizes EU recent conclusions on Yemen

SANAA, May 28 (YPA) – The Foreign Minister of the Sanaa government, Jamal Amer, strongly criticized the conclusions reached during the recent meeting of European Union (EU) foreign ministers regarding Yemen.

In a letter addressed to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, Amer described these conclusions as a clear bias and an adoption of the narrative put forth by the aggression coalition states and their allies.

He argued that they overlooked the reality that Yemen’s current situation is a direct consequence of an unjust war and blockade.

The minister refuted the claims made in the conclusions, emphasizing that military operations in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and against the “Zionist entity” fall within the framework of a “legitimate and principled response” to the ongoing aggression and blockade imposed on Gaza. These actions, he noted, are an ethical, humanitarian, and religious duty toward the Palestinian people.

The letter clarified that Yemen’s operations are “not random” but rather target specific vessels linked to the Zionist enemy or countries participating in aggression against Yemen. It asserted that freedom of navigation cannot serve as a pretext for “justifying the bloodshed of our children and women in Yemen and Palestine.”

The foreign minister attributed the stagnation of UN-led peace efforts to the “intransigence of aggression countries” and their rejection of Yemen’s legitimate demands.

He also pointed out that Washington had halted an agreement with Riyadh regarding a roadmap, aiming to exert pressure on Sanaa’s stance regarding the events in Gaza.

While reaffirming Sanaa’s commitment to a just and comprehensive peace that ensures Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, Amer stressed that “there can be no real or sustainable peace as long as aggression and blockade continue.”

He urged any international or regional initiatives to recognize this reality and apply genuine pressure on “aggressor states” to end their actions, lift the blockade, and withdraw their forces.

The foreign minister’s letter confirmed Sanaa’s rejection of any attempt by the European Union to impose a guardianship on Yemen’s foreign attitudes, explaining that its positions are based on its principles, values, and the highest interests of its people.

Amer expressed his astonishment at Yemen being urged to take specific positions while the European Union continues to disregard the war crimes and acts of genocide committed by the Israeli entity in Palestine.

He also criticized the EU for overlooking the aggression and blockade imposed on Yemen. The minister viewed the repeated accusations by the EU regarding weapons proliferation and Iran’s role as an attempt to justify the failure of the aggression, emphasizing Yemen’s right to develop its defensive capabilities.

The foreign minister called on the EU to review the flow of arms to the aggressor countries, describing the militarization of the Red Sea as a dangerous escalation that threatens maritime security and serves to protect the interests of the Israeli entity.

Additionally, he urged a reassessment of European policies toward Yemen, advocating for a more balanced stance that reflects reality. He stressed the importance of ending the aggression and lifting the blockade comprehensively and unconditionally to ensure a sustainable political resolution.
