MARIB, May 28 (YPA) – A senior brigadier general loyal to the coalition was assassinated in the city of Islah Party factions-controlled Marib under mysterious circumstances.
Civilian human rights sources said that Sharaf Asaad Al-Imad, an officer in the 21st Mechanized Brigade, was targeted on Tuesday inside a rest house in Marib city. They indicated that Al-Imad was found dead.
The sources cast doubt on the reports circulated by Islah-affiliated media outlets and its activists that Al-Imad committed suicide due to his financial situation and the psychological pressures resulting from the coalition-backed Aden government’s months-long delay in disbursing his salaries.
They pointed out that the assassination came after a campaign of incitement targeting family names.
A number of human rights activists called for an independent investigation committee to be formed to uncover the truth, so that the incident was not dismissed as a suicide, amid accusations of liquidating military personnel from Raymah, such as the case of Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Jaradi, who was assassinated under mysterious circumstances in November 2022 in Marib.
