British university divests from Israeli arms companies

SANAA, May 22 (YPA) – King’s College Cambridge, one of the largest colleges at the University of Cambridge, announced the divestment of all its investments from Israeli arms companies, after months of protests organized by a group of students.

This decision came within the framework of the university’s responsible investment policy, which includes excluding companies involved in the manufacture of nuclear and military weapons or those involved in the occupation of Palestinian or Ukrainian territories.

Before this decision, King’s College had invested about 2.2 million pounds (equivalent to 2.94 million dollars) in companies such as Lockheed Martin, Korean Aerodefense, and BAE Systems.

Cambridge University has witnessed many protests over the past months, as students organized campaigns demanding transparency in the university’s investments and the withdrawal of funds from companies involved in the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

In another development, the protests caused an escalation of tensions between students and the university administration, leading to the occupation of some university buildings such as Senate House and Greenwich House.
