OCCUPIED PALESTINE, May 18 (YPA) –
Israeli media reported on Sunday that 11 Israeli soldiers refused to enter the Gaza Strip for combat due to “extreme exhaustion”, and are now facing the threat of imprisonment.
In recent days, 11 infantry soldiers requested from their battalion commander not to enter Gaza, citing exhaustion from the ongoing combat since the beginning of the ground maneuver, according to the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.
The commander threatened the soldiers with 20 days in military prison for refusing a direct order.
According to the same source, the soldiers wrote in a letter to their commanders: “We’ve been through 17 rounds of entry into Gaza, numerous operational incidents, months of intense fighting, and we’ve lost comrades.”
The added, “We’re past our official discharge date and are serving under emergency reserve orders (Tzav 8). We’ve done everything we could – we’re mentally unable to go back into the Strip.”
