10 people killed in “suicide attack” on military barracks in Somalia

MOGADISHU, May 18 (YPA) – At least 10 people were killed in an attack targeted a line of young recruits registering at the Damanyo military barracks in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Witnesses reported that the young men were lined up at the gate of the military base when the attacker detonated his explosives.

Dozens of shoes and the remains of the suicide bomber were seen at the scene.

Medical staff at the military hospital said in a press statement that they received 30 wounded from the explosion, six of whom died instantly.

Government forces quickly imposed a security cordon around the entire area, while no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
