US stresses importance of China help to resolve the Ukrainian crisis

WASHINGTON, May 09 (YPA) – US President Donald Trump said he would not rule out asking China for help in reaching a peaceful settlement to the Ukrainian conflict.

During a press conference on Thursday at the White House, the US president noted “good progress” regarding the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is conducting ongoing discussions to end the crisis, while maintaining excellent relations with both sides.

Previously, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that President Vladimir Putin confirmed during his meeting with Witkoff Russia’s readiness to negotiate with Ukraine without preconditions.

However, as Peskov pointed out, the signal of readiness must come from Kyiv, and Moscow has not seen any such steps yet. The Ukrainian authorities must also lift the ban on contacts with Russia.

Repeatedly, Moscow has indicated that the Kyiv authorities are not ready to negotiate. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also asserted that Volodymyr Zelenskyy sabotaged the London meeting on Ukraine, the Easter truce, and the decision to halt strikes on energy facilities.
