ABYAN, May 02 (YPA) -A senior commander affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) was killed by armed assailants in the Mudiyah district, located in eastern Abyan province.
Local sources confirmed that Mohammed Saleh Al-Buraihi, commander of the Second Company in the Sixth Support and Reinforcement Brigade, was shot dead on Thursday by a sniper believed to be affiliated with Al-Qaeda. The attack occurred in the Al-Kassara area of Wadi Omran, within the Mudiyah district.
According to the sources, the sniper operation followed two prior attacks targeting STC forces in the area: the bombing of a military vehicle using an improvised explosive device (IED), and a drone strike reportedly carried out by the group’s drone unit.
Attacks against STC positions have intensified since the announcement of Operation “Arrows of the East” in mid-2022, an STC-led military campaign aimed at taking over Islah-held military camps in Abyan.
