ADEN, April 30 (YPA) – A woman died on Wednesday due to power outages lasting more than 18 hours a day in the coalition-controlled city of Aden amid an intense heat wave sweeping the city.
Reliable human rights sources said that Umm Mohammad al-Subaihi died of suffocation in the al-Saada Quarter in Khor-Maksar area due to the extremely high temperature, coinciding with the deteriorating health conditions of the elderly, which led to the deaths of a number of them.
The electricity crisis threatens the lives of citizens, especially the elderly, given the coalition-backed Aden government’s inability to provide fuel for power plants, leading to an unprecedented deterioration in basic services, the sources added.
This comes as angry popular protests continue for the fourth consecutive day for denouncing the city’s power outages and worsening living conditions, as a result of the ongoing collapse of the local currency against foreign currencies.
