ADEN, April 29 (YPA) – The city of Aden, under the Saudi-led coalition’s control in southern Yemen, witnessed on Tuesday a heavy deployment of UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions around Ma’ashiq Palace, the headquarters of the “pro-coalition government.”
Local sources reported that the deployment followed angry popular protests denouncing the continued power outages of nearly 19 hours a day amid the government’s inability to provide fuel supplies for power plants.
They revealed that STC elements carried out a widespread kidnapping campaign targeting a number of protesters denouncing the deteriorating living conditions and collapse of basic services over the past two days in the areas of Crater, Sheikh Othman, and Al-Mansoura.
Sources indicated that the heavy deployment of STC forces around the Ma’ashiq palace came in response to the escalation of protests demanding the storming of the palace and the expulsion of the government and officials loyal to the coalition due to their abject failure to curb the continued collapse of the Yemeni riyal against foreign currencies, in addition to the lack of electricity and water.
