ABYAN, April 28 (YPA) – Angry popular protests erupted on Monday in Aden and the city of Zinjibar of Abyan province, which is under coalition control, against the economic collapse and the lack of basic services, especially power outages.
Dozens of protesters blocked main roads with stones and burning tires in nighttime scenes filled with outrage over power outages lasting more than 20 hours a day in Aden and 10 days ago in Zinjibar city.
The demonstrators chanted slogans demanding the expulsion of the coalition and its affiliated Aden government, which has failed to provide fuel for power plants in Aden, Abyan, Lahj, and Shabwa. Pro-coalition authorities were accused of tampering with and plundering revenues for their own personal gain.
They denounced the collapse of the local currency and the deteriorating living conditions resulting from the horrific economic downturn, which has led to skyrocketing prices of food and consumer goods, exacerbating citizens’ suffering without any significant solutions being found.
Popular protests have spread from Aden to Abyan and extended to Lahj, with power outages continuing and services deteriorating. This suffering is worsening year due to the false promises made by the coalition over the past few years.
