DAMASCUS, April 22 (YPA) – The new authorities in Syria have arrested two leaders of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement without knowing the reasons, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Al-Quds Brigades, the movement’s military wing.
The statement said that the new Syrian leadership has been arresting Khaled Khaled, the official in charge of the Syrian arena, and Abu Ali Yasser Al-Zafari, the official in charge of the organizing committee for the Syrian arena for five days.
The Brigades’ statement called on the new Syrian authorities to release the two leaders.
“While we have been fighting the Zionist enemy in the Gaza Strip for more than ne and a half years, without surrender, we hope to receive support and appreciation from our Arab brothers, not the other way around,” the statement added.
The Syrian authorities issued a decision in November 2024 banning all activities of Palestinian resistance factions on Syrian territory.
Western media outlets reported American pressure on the Syrian government to ban the activities of Palestinian factions and restrict their operations in ways that serve the Israeli entity.
