Turkey’s military force arrives in Somalia

MOGADISHU, April 22 (YPA) – A Turkish ground force has arrived in Mogadishu, the Somali capital, on board two military aircraft, in the first deployment of a Turkish force in East Africa.

The force consists of 500 soldiers deployed in the Middle and Lower Shabelle regions, which have recently been attacked by the Somali “Al-Shabaab” movement. The movement has seized control of large parts of these areas and is advancing toward Mogadishu.

According to sources, approximately 5,000 Turkish soldiers are expected to participate in the military operation.

It is worth noting that more than 20,000 foreign troops, mostly from Ethiopia, Djibouti, Uganda, and Kenya, have been stationed in Somalia for 17 years on various international missions.
