ADEN, April 13 (YPA) – Hundreds of students in Aden city, south of Yemen, staged on Sunday a protest rally demanding the cancellation of the high school exams.
In the rally, which was held in front of the Ministry of Education building affiliated with the coalition-backed Aden government, the students rejected the decision to hold the exams despite the deteriorating educational process.
The protesters expressed the strongly rejection of the ongoing teachers’ strike, led by the Transitional Council-aligned Teachers’ Union.
They asserted that the ministry’s decision to hold exams was illogical, given the complete collapse of the educational process throughout the academic year, describing it as “unjustified arbitrariness” that threatens students’ futures.
The participants held up banners demanding the cancellation of high school exams and the adoption of cumulative grades, given the incomplete curriculum due to the suspension of teaching.
The students and parents noted that the education crisis in Aden and the southern provinces has reached its worst point due to the neglect of teachers’ demands, especially improving their living conditions and disbursing delayed salaries. This has led to a complete paralysis of public schools since the beginning of the year.
The students’ families issued an urgent appeal to the “Aden government” to intervene immediately and save what remains of the school year by tackling fair solutions to end the teachers’ strike and ensure the return of education.
