Gaza GMO: Israeli occupation turns water into slow-kill weapon against Palestinians

GAZA, April 13 (YPA) – Israeli occupation  is deliberately depriving the 2.4 million population of Gaza of water through targeted attacks on water supplies and desalination plants, the Gaza government media office said in a statement.

It warned that the Israeli occupation  is “turning water into a tool of genocide and a weapon of slow killing”, highlighting a severe humanitarian and environmental disaster looming over the besieged enclave.

“The occupation continues its deliberate deprivation of the population of the minimum amount of water necessary for survival by systematically targeting water infrastructure, halting supply lines, destroying water stations and wells, and cutting off electricity and fuel needed to operate water and sanitation facilities,” it added.

It highlighted the occupation’s recent disruption of two key water lines from the Israeli company Mekorot, which supply more than 35,000 cubic meters (over 1.2 million cubic feet) of water daily to over 700,000 Palestinians in the eastern and central regions of Gaza.

According to the office, Israeli occupation also cut the electricity supply to the water desalination plant in Deir al-Balah, located in central Gaza, halting its operations entirely and leaving 800,000 people in the central and Khan Younis areas at risk of severe water shortages.
