ADEN, April 12 (YPA) – The Syndicate of University Faculty at Four Southern Universities—Aden, Lahj, Abyan, and Shabwa—has issued an urgent call for its members to march toward the Saudi-led coalition Forces’ headquarters in Aden next Monday.
In a statement, the Syndicate confirmed that the planned protest represents a new phase of escalation aimed at demanding financial and professional rights, after all peaceful avenues with the pro-coalition government have been exhausted.
According to the statement, the decision to protest at the Coalition’s headquarters stems from the continued disregard of professors’ demands, including the payment of overdue salaries and the need for wage adjustments amid a deepening economic crisis.
The Syndicate urged all faculty members to participate, emphasizing that “every absence adds pressure on colleagues, while attendance helps reclaim professional dignity and legitimate rights.”
This call comes amid a severe deterioration in the living conditions of faculty members at universities in coalition-held areas.
Institutions in southern Yemen are facing extreme neglect, with salaries delayed for months—forcing many professors to abandon academic work or seek opportunities abroad.
