Canada complains to World Trade Organization about Trump’s auto tariffs

SANAA, April 08 (YPA) – Canada has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization against the United States for imposing a 25% of Trump’s customs duties on cars and auto parts imported from Canada.

A World Trade Organization statement said, on Tuesday, that Canada has asked the international organization to hold consultations on the US customs duties.

The statement added that the Canadian request was conveyed to WTO members on Monday.

Canada says that the 25% tariff imposed by the United States on some of its products violate certain provisions of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of 1994.

If no resolution is reached during consultations with the United States within 60 days, the step that normally precedes the start of arbitration proceedings, Canada can ask the organization to issue a ruling on the case.

On March 4, the United States began applying additional 25% tariffs on products imported from Canada and Mexico.
