ABYAN, April 02 (YPA) – In a heartbreaking incident, three young men lost their lives while swimming off the coast of Maqateen in Ahwar District, Abyan Province.
According to local sources, the victims were identified as two brothers, Mohannad and Abdulwahid Jaber Al-Wahishi, along with their friend Abdulrazak Mahdar Al-Najjar.
They were enjoying a recreational swimming session on Tuesday evening as part of a holiday outing at the beach, the sources said.
The sources explained that the two brothers were caught in the strong currents and drowned in the sea.
In a desperate attempt to save them, their friend Abdulrazak tried to help, but unfortunately, he also drowned in the process.
The tragedy has sparked widespread grief and anger among local residents, who blame local authorities for the lack of safety guidelines and warnings regarding the dangers of swimming during the windy season.
They called for the implementation of preventive measures to protect beachgoers from drowning risks.
It should be noted that the coastal areas of Abyan Governorate have seen repeated drowning accidents, especially during adverse weather conditions, primarily because of the insufficient safety measures and lack of warnings regarding the dangers of swimming in certain hazardous spots.
