SANAA, March 13 (YPA) -The local authority in Abyan province, affiliated with the Sanaa government, announced on Wednesday the reopening of the Aqabat al-Mahalhal road, which connects Abyan and Bayda provinces.
It also expressed its readiness to reopen the strategic Aqabat Tharah road, which links the two provinces.
The authority emphasized its support for local and tribal initiatives aimed at alleviating citizens’ suffering and reopening public roads.
It highlighted its previous unilateral initiative to reopen Tharah Road, in line with directives from the Houthi leadership, to ease travel between the Lawdar and Mukayras districts and between Bayda and Abyan provinces. However, it noted that “other parties” did not respond to this initiative.
The Abyan local authority reiterated its willingness to reopen Tharah Road if the “parties loyal to the Saudi-American aggression” reciprocate.
It also emphasized its commitment to alleviating the suffering of citizens who are forced to use longer, alternative routes due to the continued closure of the Aqabat Lawdar road.
The authority called on other parties to approach the road reopening initiative “rationally and responsibly,” prioritizing the interests of citizens during Ramadan.
It also praised the efforts of local tribes and mediators working to reopen closed roads and ease travel.
