Sudan files lawsuit against UAE in ICJ

KHARTOUM, Mar. 06 (YPA) – Sudan has filed a lawsuit against the UAE at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing it of violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide by providing support to the Rapid Support Forces involved in the ongoing conflict in the country.

The allegations point to the UAE’s involvement in financing and arming these forces, which resulted in the commission of genocide, killings, rape, and destruction of property, particularly targeting the Masalit tribe in West Darfur during 2023.

A Sudanese delegation headed by Minister of Justice, Moawia Mohamed Ahmed Khair, participated in the 58th session of the Human Rights Council.

During the session dedicated to the interactive dialogue on the human rights situation in Sudan, the delegation presented a statement addressing the crimes and serious violations committed by the rebel militias, highlighting their violations of international humanitarian law and human rights, in addition to the Geneva Conventions.

According to the Sudanese News Agency, the statement explained in detail the role of external support as a major factor fueling the continuation of the conflict, accusing the UAE of supplying weapons to the rebel militias, despite Security Council resolutions calling for an end to such support.
