Israeli occupation forces notify of their intentions to demolish 17 homes in Tulkarm’s Nur Shams camp
WEST BANK, March 05 (YPA) – Israeli occupation forces notified on Wednesday morning of their intentions to demolish 17 homes in Nur Shams refugee camp east of Tulkarm, bringing the total number of homes demolished or set to be demolished to 28.
Nihad Al-Shawish, head of the Nur Shams Camp’s Popular Committee, told WAFA that the Israeli authorities intend to demolish 17 homes in the Al-Manshiyya neighborhood under the pretext of creating a new road, which will alter the camp’s landscape and geography at the expense of dozens of long-established homes.
The targeted homes belong to several Palestinian families in the camp. The families were given a deadline between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM to leave their homes.
He pointed out that this measure comes as a continuation of the plan to demolish 11 homes, which the occupation carried out a few days ago in the camp, extending from the central square of the camp to the Al-Manshiyya neighborhood.
Since the beginning of the Israeli offensive on the camp 25 days ago, the Nur Shams has been subjected to escalating violence. Israeli forces have carried out repeated raids on homes, blowing up doors, evicting residents at gunpoint and turning the properties into military outposts.
The camp has also witnessed widespread destruction of infrastructure and property, including homes and shops that were demolished, blown up or set on fire. This has exacerbated the suffering of the remaining residents, who live under severe siege, with shortages in food, water, medicine and infant formula.
Every day, large numbers of residents are fleeing the camp after receiving threats from Israeli forces, with the number of displaced Palestinians exceeding 9,000.
