Danish police suppress protesters against arming Israeli occupation

COPENHAGEN, Feb. 25 (YPA) – At least 20 Danish people were arrested on Monday during a demonstration in front of the headquarters of an international container shipping company ‘Maersk’ in Copenhagen city.

Danish police announced that the arrests came after the demonstrators had demanded that the Maersk company must stop delivering military equipment to the occupation.

“We are here to demand that Maersk stop shipping weapons and weapons components to Israel,” Greta Thunberg, a Swedish environmental activist, said in a video posted on social media during the protesters. “They must end all contracts and investments that support the genocide and occupation of Palestine.”

According to local media outlets, the police used batons and tear gas to disperse dozens of protesters.

Earlier, four non-governmental organizations announced that they would pursue the Danish government legally, to push it to suspend arms exports to the Israeli occupation.
